Nios Restaurant is located in the Muse Hotel in New York City. I found it when my husband and I were looking for somewhere to go to dinner after the show in my previous post. The reviews on other sites were very good for the food, and people also mentioned how glorious the bathrooms were, so we figured we’d give it a go.

What a great find Nios turned out to be! They have a pre fixe dinner option for $42 (per person) which includes an appetizer, dinner, and dessert. Additionally, Nios is known as a wine bar and has excellent cocktails. I enjoyed a fresh green salad accompanied with a pasta and beef ragout and freshly made churros for dessert. The Mr. enjoyed a short rib “sandwich” for his appetizer along with a seafood risotto and an apple crumble dessert. The portions were generous without being heavy, and the same can be said for their wine and cocktail choices.

Now…onto the bathrooms…they are their own masterpiece. It’s a unisex bathroom with individual stalls (with doors, no worries) and each bathroom is themed on one of the 7 deadly sins. Not only is the theming great, but they even have 2 types of accessible bathrooms, one for a full wheelchair setup with private sink, and the other for an ambulatory person (and it even said so…check out our Twitter account for a pic!). So, there are zero accessibility problems at this restaurant.

Nios is definitely one of our favorite discoveries since moving to the NYC Metro area…we will probably go back in the fall to try some of their seasonal selections.

After a fantastic afternoon at Pier I, my pal and husband ventured off for dinner and decided to try 9 Restaurant.  The menu, although seeming a bit intimidating, is actually exceptionally attainable and quite tasty!  We started with a meatball slider appetizer, which was surprisingly tasty. I had their “Sunday/Monday Special” which was prime rib with a fantastic accompanying potato with chives, sour cream, and garlic (along with a sour cream and horseradish sauce for the prime rib) and an arugula salad which was big enough for the 3 of us to share. My husband and our friend had the skirt steak which was served with a blended/mashed avocado, and both men were pleased with it (one liked the avocado, one didn’t, but that was more along the lines of personal preference). We finished with a doughnut dessert which was crisp and savory and served with ice cream. Since I’m “Ms. Lactose Intolerant”, I asked for some chocolate sauce to go with the dessert and it was brought promptly and pleasantly.

The entrance and restrooms were easily accessible and the waitstaff thoroughly accommodating. I would go back again.

Pier I Cafe

It was a glorious late spring day in Metro NYC today, and a friend of mine called me to see if I wanted to “play” all afternoon. He had a specific destination in mind – Pier I (eye, not one) Cafe, which is located on the Upper West Side. I was not disappointed.

Pier I Cafe is a seasonal bar which sits right along the Hudson River at 70th St. in Manhattan. Although they serve food, it is mostly a great place to grab their Corona Bucket ( for $35) or some prosecco and take in the glorious views of the Hudson River, boats, and Bergen County, NJ on a pleasant summer day. If you are visiting the area and need a “time out”, this is the place to take it.

Parking is available at the Trump buildings (68th St) and there’s a nice paved ramp/walkway to get to the riverfront. There’s even a wheelchair accessible bathroom between the 2 main restrooms which is clean and has plenty of space – something which you don’t expect to encounter in a city park!

Stopped by here pre-Sunday theater matinee since we were undecided about eating before the show. Glad we did! Had a delicious Eggs Benedict with delicious Irish ham (as opposed to traditional Canadian bacon) and cooked and season potatoes, and my husband had eggs with corned beef and hash. We were both pleasantly surprised with our meals and mimosas (unlike some other places in the area, these mimosas were made properly with both orange juice and Grand Marnier). We will most certainly go back when in the area.

The bar selections are extensive and, although we were only there for a “brunch” meal, the menu appeared to have a good mix of authentic Irish and Americanized-Irish food to make most people happy.

Entrance into the restaurant was very easy. I didn’t enter the bathroom, but it was on the main floor and looked to not be an issue.
