Marinero Grill

Admittedly, I’m not a huge Latin food connoisseur, but the Meetup group I belong to met there for drinks and dinner on this particular evening, so I figured I’d give it a go. There was a group of 6 during the week and the restaurant was not terribly busy. Marinero Grill is meant to be a family seafood restaurant with a Latin flair (I gather….).

The sangria was fantastic…I’m picky about my sangria, and it was very good. Sadly, the food wasn’t as big of a hit.  I had a chicken Caesar salad, and it was functional.  I noticed that with the other guest’s meals, the quality didn’t look very good, either.  The restaurant seemed to skimp with frozen instead of fresh vegetables and the presentation seemed a bit bland.

The service was ok….we didn’t think our server could understand English well, but she tried.

I didn’t use the restroom so I cannot comment on that, but there’s a ton of parking onsite.

Son Cubano

A friend and I were having a “day off” on a Friday and came to Son Cubano “just because”. Later, my husband joined us for dinner. Unfortunately, there’s very little possible that I can say positive about this restaurant.

The decor is gorgeous and the views of New York City are phenomenal. That being said, the food was rather bland and the service was beyond terrible. We had to ask for water glasses to be refilled repeatedly (then, of course, everyone came at once, repeatedly), and we had to ask three times for our bill when we were ready to leave.  None of us were impressed with our meals (my “casserole” was basically rice with a few bits of meat thrown in). Many others rave about this place, but we found it to be pretentious without anything substantial to back it up with.

There is parking available and the restrooms are wheelchair accessible with plenty of room.
